What does steroid metenolone represent?

The Belarusian shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. But she was stripped of the award because she failed a drug test. She was asked to provide two samples. The substance metenolone was found in both urine samples.
If you read steroid scandals, you must know that competitive sportspeople and bodybuilders are usually caught applying other steroids and/or doping products. But when it comes to Nadzeya Ostapchuk, she was caught taking metenolone. It is strange, according to words of anti-doping officers. What does this banned product represent? Why don’t athletes usually use this drug for increase of performance?
Metenolone is an anabolic steroid. It has slight androgenic features. It works like testosterone, increasing muscle mass and adding endurance.
However this medicine has just weak androgenic nature, it leads to development of sex male features in females. Females who take this medicine may face usual signs of virilization: the voice becomes deeper; hair grows on the face and on other parts of the body; etc.
This preparation can be used orally or through injections.
Metenolone (Methenolone) produces amazing effects, when it is taken by sportspersons during their trainings. It is not applied during competitions. It doesn’t work, if it is used only on the day of a competition.
It is also stated that it is easy to catch those who take this anabolic steroid.
Undesirable effects of Metenolone (Methenolone) depend on dosages which are administered. They are following: fluid retention, elevated calcium level in the blood, bone growth, excessive hair growth on the body, acne formation, male-pattern baldness, menstrual irregularities, increased libido, etc.
Thus, if you see a female athlete who has deep voice and hirsutism, you may accuse her of steroid use. In fact, it is wrong because these problems may appear also in those women who don’t administer any steroids. But sometimes these effects display that certain female athletes apply drugs that have androgenic properties.
