It is known by each baseball fan that Roger Clemens is accused in obstruction of justice. It is believed that he has lied before Congress about usage of steroids and HGH.
The attorney Rusty Hardin noted that Roger Clemens’ physical appearance didn’t change greatly before, during and after his working with Brian McNamee. The attorney affirmed that this aspect proved that Roger Clemens hadn’t taken steroids and other related medicines.
Enhancement of muscle mass is frequently used by prosecutors as proof that a sportsperson uses steroids or/and other related products. But this tendency was not utilized during the governmental case against Roger Clemens. No one could confirm that Roger Clemens’ muscles displayed that he had applied steroids and HGH. It is one of differences between the cases against Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds.
When it comes to the governmental case against Barry Bonds, federal prosecutors called many individuals in the trial who could testify that anabolic steroids led to essential changes in physical appearance of this athlete. They claimed that administration of steroids caused enhancement of muscle mass, enhanced size of the head and testicular shrinkage in Barry Bonds.
Thus, Rusty Hardin presented 4 pictures of Roger Clemens. The photos displayed physical appearance of Roger Clemens, including the period of time when Clemens was working with the coach Brain McNamee. The attorney noticed that the pictures showed that there were no changes in physical appearance that could manifest that he used steroids and HGH.
The attorney Rusty Hardin claimed that the pictures manifested only the process of ageing. The masseur Cheryl Redfern also confirmed that she didn’t observe any changes in physical appearance of Roger Clemens. Roger Clemens experienced neither back acne, nor gynecomastia, nor dramatically enhanced muscle mass.
The former Major League Baseball player Phil Garner also affirmed that there were not any essential changes in physical appearance and performance of Roger Clemens during working with Brian McNamee.
The Assistant US Attorney Steve Durham put efforts to discredit the argument about lack of physical changes in Roger Clemens during the cross-examination of Phil Garner. He confirmed that while several steroids enhanced muscle size, others didn’t promote enhancing muscles. So, he confirmed that the photos could display nothing about steroid use.
Feds want to take advantages in both cases: in the case against Roger Clemens and in that against Barry Bonds. While they confirm that changes in physical appearance of Barry Bonds manifest that he has applied steroids, lack of changes in physical appearance of Roger Clemens doesn’t prove that he hasn’t taken steroids.
